Rhode Island’s Twin River Casino is considering adding a poker room, according to a report from wpri.com. The Lincoln gambling facility is expected to take a hit after a slots parlor opens in Plainville, Massachusetts.

The two cities are just over 12 miles apart. Gambling in Rhode Island nets the state more than $370 million every 12 months in tax revenue, so officials are hoping to protect that.

“Our poker views are starting to change, so there could be a day in the relatively near future where we could consider a moderate-sized poker room at the facility, which would make a lot of people happy,” Twin River Worldwide Holdings Chairman John E. Taylor Jr. said

The Rhode Island Lottery said Twin River Casino must get approval to add the poker room. No formal request has been submitted to the state, but there have been ongoing discussions between the two sides about the possibility, the report said.

Twin River received the OK to add house-banked table games just three years ago. It currently has 4,500 slot machines and 80 table games.

Twin River is also looking to add a 200-room hotel to its property in an effort to keep gamblers at the property longer. Currently, it’s considered a “convenience casino”, meaning that people drive there to play, but don’t spend the night. New casinos in the region will come with hotel towers.
